Admission Requirements to the University of London International Programmes
Western International College (WINC) – Affiliate Centre in the UAE & Middle East
A University of London qualification is sought after and highly regarded worldwide. Given the academic rigour of our programmes to achieve good results requires a high degree of motivation and commitment. But your hard work will be worth it in the end, as you will be joining an expanding community of alumni with excellent career prospects

Am I eligible?
You can take advantage of the wide range of entry points including a fast track route for those who already hold a degree. In the main for degree programmes you will need to have a minimum of the equivalent f three passes at GCSE/ GCE ‘O’ level at Grade C or above (including a Mathematical Subject) plus two further subjects at ‘A’ Level and proof of your competence in English.

Typically in the UAE we receive applications from students graduating with High School qualifications (a minimum of 12 years of schooling is required) from International Baccalaureate/ Indian/ Pakistan/ Bangladesh/ American/ Sri Lankan/ Egyptian/ UAE Higher Secondary School systems. Students from educational or school systems can apply and their qualifications would be reviewed and the approximate eligibility criteria would be applied in reviewing these applications. If you are not eligible for the degree you may be eligible for the Access route or the Diploma in Economics. Eligibility criteria for both the Diploma & Degree are listed below and any queries or concerns can be addressed by calling us or visiting with the campus.

Access Route
You must have passed at least five separate subjects at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level, or the equivalent (with two passes at grade B, one of which must be in Mathematics). All students entering the Access route must have completed a minimum of 12 years schooling, or completed 11 years of schooling with at least two years of relevant work experience since leaving school.
BSc Degree Standard Entry Route
You must have passes in either; two subjects at GCE ‘A’ level, plus at least three further subjects at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level at Grade C or above; or three subjects at GCE ‘A’ level (with one ‘A’ level at not less than grade D); or three subjects at GCE ‘A’ level and one further subject at GCSE/GCE ‘O’ level at Grade C or above; or two subjects at GCE ‘A’ level, plus two further subjects at GCE ‘AS’ level.

BSc Degree Graduate Entry Route
You must hold a full first degree completed in a minimum of three years duration on a full time basis (or equivalent) from a university or other institution acceptable to the University of London. Note: Applications holding professional and/or postgraduate qualifications without a full first degree cannot be considered for admission to the Graduate Entry Route.

In order to register for the test you need to make a full application, handing the following items in to the Admissions Office:
WINC Application Form
6 passport photos
2 passport copies
Certificates/Marksheets attested by your school office or British Council
Cash or Cheque for AED 2250 (non-refundable)*, payable to WINC

Applicants are usually interviewed by the Programme Director and Academic Co-ordinator.

The entrance test is compulsory for all applicants. It lasts 3½ hours:
Maths test for 1½ hours
English test for 1½ hours

Maths Test
You will be tested at your current level of maths, i.e. if you have passed O level, GCSE level or Grade 10 level, then you will be tested at that level. However, if you have passed AS or A level, or Grade 12, then you will be tested at that level.

The Maths test is designed to test your basic Maths skills, including:
Algebra
Linear Equations
Trigonometry
Calculus (only for AS & A level, and Grade 12 students)

The English test is designed to test the following English skills:
Comprehension
Grammar
Essay writing

Scholarships

  • If you would like to apply for a scholarship to study at WINC, you will need to:
  • Make an application
  • Take the entrance test
  • Attend the interview
  • Accept the offer of a place, if offered
  • Complete the Scholarship Application form
  • Attach a copy of parent’s/legal guardian’s Labour Contract
  • Attach 6 months of bank statements
